| Jack McLaughlin - 08/29/2010 |
Suddenly and very unexpectedly, on August 25, 2010, Jack, beloved husband of Ruth (Brown) McLaughlin, went to be with His LORD. They were preparing to celebrate their 43rd wedding anniversary the next day, their lives together having been inseparable since student days at Carleton University. Jack was the only son of the late John & Elza McLaughlin of Matheson, Ontario, brother-in-law of Diane (Brown) Atkinson (John) of Vancouver and brother in-law of the late Kevin Brown of London, Ontario. His nephews and nieces J.J. (Julie), Dan and Becky Atkinson in Vancouver; and Jordan, Jared and Josh Brown in London were never far from his mind. Jack taught at Roland Michener Secondary School in South Porcupine, where he and Ruth lived. In retirement, Jack and Ruth returned to Ottawa where their lives as a couple began. Finally he had time for his passion to read, think and write. Chairing the Stanford Reid Trust (established by his MA professor and thesis advisor at U. of Guelph) which assisted worthy Christian educational projects all over Canada occupied much of his time, and he even found time to enthusiastically facilitate Ruth's Ottawa Valley genealogy. Friends and family may visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe (at Richmond Road)., Ottawa, on Sunday, August 29 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The service will be held at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, 971 Woodroffe (at the Queensway), Monday, August 30, at 1 p.m. A reception follows at St. Paul's, and internment at Capital Memorial Gardens. |

In addition to his volunteer work with Carleton, Don was President of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada, The Society of Management Accountants of Canada, and the Canadian Club of Ottawa. He was Founder and President of the Association of State Correctional Administrators, a member of the Founding Board of the Canadian Comprehensive Auditing Foundation, Founding Co-Chair of the Canadian Council of Administrative Tribunals, Chair of the Council of Chairs of Ontario Universities, and Chair of the Awards Committee of the American Correctional Association.
